Known as being the creme de la creme of dog breeds, the Golden Retriever is a delightful and magnificent canine with a thick water-repellent double coat which means grooming them can get tricky.

Since, their coats are built like a peach, coarse and silky on the outside while being pulpy and supple on the inside, needless to say, a standard clipper even with the passable experience of the owner wouldn’t be sufficient.

Having likewise properties to the aforementioned fruit, I have named my Golden retriever “Peach”, because it’s so playful and luscious with undoubtedly top-tier intellect.

I have to be honest here When I initially decided to raise a golden retriever, the grooming phase was quite tricky especially when dealing with its dynamic long fur after stumbling across a vast plethora of options relating to clippers, I have shortlisted a selected sum of five based on their value, performance, and use cases for this distinctive breed.

It was a rough yet tricky endeavor, which is why I have decided to share my Grooming kit secret in the form of the best clippers for golden retrievers, which will eventually save you precious time and eliminate the need for you to go through the same ordeal that I have dealt with in the past.

List of Best Golden Retriever Clippers

Let’s dive into the list.

1. HANSPROU Clipper for Golden Retrievers

Features

  • 12V motor
  • Aluminum alloy build
  • Penta Adjustment levels
  • 1.43 lbs

Let’s break the ice, one of the most sought-after choices in the market that is peer-reviewed and has been my personal favorite for quite a minute. I have trimmed some Great Pyrenees and Goldies for my clients with this clipper, and here is what I think about it.

Anti Skidding Pattern

Let’s start the review from its outer shell, the aluminum cladding covers the innards while being enormously lightweight weighing only 1.43 lbs on a scale.

I even took the liberty to measure its dimensions since it felt so flimsy that it intrigued me to use a measuring tape and to my surprise these trimmers were only 10.08 x 7.09 x 2.72 inches.

The brainstorming invested in this machine is remarkable, in fact, it’s a true engineering marvel if you take a glimpse at its design, and the fact that it even has anti-skidding protruding feels like the icing on the cake.

I hate using clippers for energetic dogs like a golden retriever which have slippery handles as it may pose a hazard to my puppy.

Blade Type & Motor

Moving onto its innards, under the hood it’s no slouch either, in fact, the titanium aluminum blade combined with a ceramic knife keeps it sharp and blazing while it mows down the thick double coat of my Golden Retriever like a champ.

These sets of anti-rust blades are controlled through a 12v motor which barely makes a sound and has a noise output of around 50 Db.

Even when I was shaving the paws of my dog, the near-silent and vibration-free clippers trimmed small fibers quite effectively without irritating or disturbing her mood.

Adjustment Ring

Not that I am claiming that guided combs are irrelevant but using a built-in adjustment ring is always superior to addons like those. The rubberized ring right below the power button lets you raise the blades in smaller increments ranging from 0.8-2mm.

The trimmer itself comes with six guided combs ranging from 3mm-12mm so you can trim each region of the body such as the butt, neck, and back easily.

Why Do I recommend the HANSPROU Clipper?

I highly recommend this clipper for novice individuals who have a hard time using them appropriately as the utilization aspect of this trimmer is extremely consumer friendly. To prevent accidental slippage, it even has an Anti-Skidding Grip.

What Makes It Different From Others?

Comes with tons of Guided Combs and can be cleaned with minimal effort as the blades and innards are waterproof, so you can dip it in water and it’s safe to conclude that it won’t catch rusting.

Pros

  • Blades never heat up
  • Has anti-skidding gripping
  • Hexa Guard add-ons

Cons

  • Tad bit heavier

2. WAHL USA Clipper

Features

  • 1.23 lbs
  • Corded Clippers
  • Integrated Tapper Level

Smooth Maneuvering

Wahl has been the pioneer of shaving and grooming accessories for longer than I can remember and their expertise in this field barely surprises me.

In fact, the Patented Power Drive incorporated into it had me head over heels and I cannot have enough of it, exaggeration aside, I am so in love with it, and even if it breaks down or malfunctions I am still purchasing it again.

Another exciting feature is its dual carbon blades which are controlled by the power drive and since it’s a corded clipper, it’s no wonder that you could possibly shear through the outer fur of the golden retriever without having to deal with issues such as hair snags or fur jitter.

This gives me complete peace of mind, as with my previous clippers, my experience was botched due to poor blade utilization which would get stuck mid-way while grooming the hair of my labrador retriever which eventually resulted in mean looks from my dog as she hated the sight of those clippers causing quite a ruckus in my life while I was raising her.

Micro Adjustments

Are you fond of those saloon-grade fades and splices all across the fur of your dog? If your answer is “Yes”, then you would absolutely adore these clippers because even without having professional-grade experience or equipment at hand, you could mimic the same technique while using the taper lever micro-adjustment mechanism to shave off any unnecessary hair with peak perfection.

The micro-adjustment lever makes it so easy for me to shave off the belly of my golden retriever while it lays on its back, the smoother inner coat melts on this carbon blade with minimal efforts

Why Do I Recommend The Wahl USA Clipper?

If you don’t mind the portability aspect in exchange for raw power, then investing in the Wahl USA clipper doesn’t really seem like a lame idea in retrospect, just make sure you are mindful of the cord while shaving or grooming your pet.

What Makes It Different From Other Clippers?

These are heavy-duty clippers, designed only for the thickest and the most stubborn hair fiber which takes pure brawns to mow down. However, for Wahl corded clippers, no challenge is too steep to conquer.

Pros

  • Colored guides
  • Carbon Blades
  • Power Drive Motor

Cons

  • Isn’t Cordless

3. Oneisall Golden Retriever Clipper

Features

  • 1.3 lbs
  • 50 Db noise output
  • Cordless

If every other option fails or doesn’t live up to the claim, go for the Oneisall golden retriever clippers because I assure you it’s a one-stop shop solution with impeccable results.

Small & Lightweight

Let’s start the review with its ability to fit almost anywhere, Keep it in your backpack or shove it in your pocket, its ‎8.54 x 7.52 x 2.48 inches dimension specification won’t take up much space, and the fact that it weighs only 1.32 lbs will make you feel like you’re not even caring anything at all.

Hexa Guard Add-ons

Equipped with a plethora of comb guards, the Oneisall clippers allowed me to shape the hair of my dog with minimal effort like a champ.

Personally, I love using the 9mm whenever I want to prevent the hair of my double-coated golden retriever from getting matte and plumpy.

However, the 6mm guard comb gets the job quite efficiently, especially in the neck region since my dog gets tickled if I use anything lower than that.

Why Do I recommend this for Golden Retriever?

The reason for the recommendation is pretty straightforward, It’s a no-nonsense trimmer that has apex-level use cases. In other words, you can use it for both thick and soft furs without having to worry about the hair getting snagged in the blades.

What Makes Oneisall Clipper Different from Others?

The blade can be easily adjusted and has a skin detection mechanism, so it never chaffs or irritates the skin no matter how hard or rough you maneuver the clippers on your dog, making it one of the safest picks in the market.

4. AIBORS Dog Clippers for Grooming

Features

  • 0.5-2.5mm taper lever length
  • 4x Guided Combs
  • 4 hours Runtime

As sharp as a diamond and built like a tank, the Airbors dog clipper could easily last an eternity.

Motor Type

When purchasing clippers, I love taking a dig at their motor type, it helps me get a wider perspective on the tier of the trimmer I am dealing with.

I have to be honest here, at first glance, it did look a bit slouchy on the outside but as the saying goes “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, so I had to abide by it and personally test it out in the field especially for its power capabilities.

Lo & behold, it is armed with a copper rotary motor with minimal resistivity keeping the heat ratio to as low as possible while maximizing efficiency.

I even adore the fact that regardless of which position I use these clippers on the fur of my golden retriever, they wouldn’t snag its hair or make it look choppy, this feature is by far one of the biggest selling points for me as the cheaper clippers I owned in the past struggled with my great Dane’s fur when it chopped up diagonally.

Battery life

If you have made it to this point of the article, take this as a personal piece of advice and stick to it, whenever you are choosing clippers or grooming accessories which is cordless and run on batteries, make sure they provide ample runtime, otherwise, you will be dealing with plenty of downtimes.

To overcome this hurdle, I opted for these distinctive clippers since my dog is a slow shedder which results in the coat getting extremely thick like if I am churning through wads of cotton on a sheep.

The Airbors Clippers offers a ridiculously high runtime ranging up to 4 hours and even has a battery indicator so you can monitor how many hours you have left before you run out of juice.

Why Do I recommend the ARBORS clipper?

This clipper might feel a little bulky, however, the performance output is truly miles ahead and even overshadows any flaw it might have.

What makes it different from its competitors?

If you are an individual who often forgets about charging their clippers from time to time, then I would highly recommend these for your use case as the AIRBORS has amazing battery life.

Pros

  • Robust Copper Motor
  • Easy to clean
  • Comes with 1 year sales warranty

Cons

  • Bulky

5. HOLDOG Brand Dog Clippers for Golden Retrievers

Features

  • 230 grams
  • Stainless steel body
  • 33 Teeth Blade
  • 40 Db noise ratio

The last contender in the list batters the competition with its premium-grade capabilities, offering over-the-top performance and maneuvering.

Tuning Knob

Whether you want to go slow on your little puppy or simply want to scythe the ungroomed belly hair of your pet dog, the speed customization on this thing will take care of any grooming problem with little to no effort.

My amazement was through the roof when I found out the tuning knob also lets you adjust the size of the blade from 0.8-2mm.

This allowed me to shave off the unnecessary hair in the eye region, paws, and even around its neck in little increments without getting too close to the skin and possibly causing irritation.

Integrated LCD Screen

I even adore the fact that the manufacturer incorporated a nice little digital screen, even though it’s about 1 inch, it certainly displays all the necessary information such as the speed of the blades, battery health, and even the “RPM” of the motor.

Unlike other clippers which tend to have small LED “dots” to indicate battery life which are often misleading, this one provides a highly accurate indication so that you can manage your grooming sessions with ease.

Why do I recommend this Clipper?

After using it on many Goldies and a few of huskies, I would say it has amazing ergonomics with decent fuselage quality. One of the biggest pivotal points is its triple-speed motor which emphasizes speed, maneuvering, and accuracy, giving you professional-grade veterinary experience.

What makes HOLDOG different from others?

The battery life alone makes it well worth the money, in fact, at such a price tag it supersedes the competition with minimal effort.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Extremely silent
  • Has LCD screen
  • Amazing battery life

Cons

  • Awkward speed placement button

Bottom Line

Golden retrievers are known to shed their hair like maple trees in autumn, which is why they are termed moderate shedders all year round.

This also makes them susceptible to grooming-related issues as uneven fur will make them look ugly and irritate some parts of their body such as their inner legs and neck region.

Speaking of which, my list of the best clippers for Golden retrievers will extinguish all your grooming worries in no time, Just make sure you read my review of each product and make a commitment according to the pros and cons mentioned with it.
