Clipping a dog’s hair can be challenging, especially if they have double-coated fur like the Siberian Huskies. Trimming this type of fur can become more difficult as the outer layer tends to get tangled, potentially causing the clippers to jam.
Based on my extensive experience with numerous double-coated dog breeds, including the Great Pyr, Huskies, and many more, I have thoroughly tested and evaluated various clippers.
As a result, I have compiled a list of my top 5 recommended clippers for your convenience.

1. Oster A5 Hair Clippers for Husky Dog
This is one of my favorite clippers because of its great design and user experience.
Better Blades
After using it for a couple of weeks I liked how its blades worked. Compared to other products in this range, the Oster A5 had a wider blade size. This makes the clipping process more efficient and reduces the time I need to trim a dog’s hair.
This also means that you won’t encounter issues with cluttering or clogging, and neither did I.
Bigger Blades
For an uninterrupted cutting experience, you need a clipper with bigger and bolder blades. This product’s blades are perfectly sized for a smooth trimming of double-coated fur.
I speak from personal experience, having used it to groom several Huskies. Not only are the blades wide, but they are also sharp, effortlessly gliding through the fur.
Also, this clipper’s design provides a comfortable grip with graduations on the sides to prevent accidental dropping. Its larger size adds convenience when maneuvering through a dog’s thick coat during grooming sessions.
Power Test
One of the standout features of this clipper is its impressive power, thanks to its dual-speed motor. I liked its exceptional power while using it on different Huskies, effortlessly tackling thick and matted hair.
Before starting the clipping process, it is essential to ensure that your dog’s hair is thoroughly combed to avoid any pulling from the blades, as they are quite capable of doing so.
Pros
- Heavy duty
- Wider blades
- Easy to use
Cons
- You will need to buy separate blades.
Why Do I Recommend The Product?
U recommend OSter A5 for its remarkable power, and sharp blades that are good at grooming double-coated dogs.
What Makes It Different Than Other Products?
The wider blade size of this clipper significantly reduces the time required for trimming a double-coated dog, this makes it stand out from its competitors.
2. Andis 22340 Husky ProClip
Andis is a brand that I trust because of my good experience with it. The power of Andis clippers is more than sufficient to trim matted hair in a heavy coat.
User-Friendly Design
Like many other Andis products, the 22340 ProClip features a simple one-button turn-off and turn-on mechanism that works exceptionally well for matted hair.
Its ease of use is a definite advantage, because it allowed me, as an owner and professional dog trainer, to focus more on the grooming process without worrying about the device’s intricacies.
The design is such that it is very easy to hold it, however, the cord often irritated me but after a few sessions, I learned how to maneuver my hands around the cord.
Good Speed
As Huskies are large and stubborn so I cannot rely on a slow clipper to trim them. That’s why I bought this clipper as I had heard of its speed from my fellow dog owners and remarkably so they were right.
Much like Andis UltraEdge, this one also comes with a two-speed motor, which I think is a signature motor used by the company for heavy work. I felt that it was a tad bit slower than UltraEdge but not slow enough to mess up the trimming.
It also could cut the mats without clogging, so that’s a point I’d like to see in every clipper.
Also, it was smooth on the fur overall, essentially eliminating the chances of hurting the dog.
Attachments
One of the backdrops of this clipper is that like many other Andis clippers, it lacks necessary accessories. You will have to buy them separately including the #10 blades with combs. It is very simple to remove the blades and attach new ones.
So in conclusion, you will need to buy some additional things for an optimum clipping experience.
Why Do I Recommend The Product?
I will recommend this product for its fast and user-friendly design.
What Makes It Different?
Not only is it good in hands, but also it’s a quite durable product that makes it different from other fast clippers.
Pros
- Two-speed powerful motor
- Easy to remove the blade
- Plastic break-proof body
- Makes less noise
Cons
- You’ll have to buy accessories separately.
3. Hansprou Dog Shaver Clippers
This was my first experience with Hansprou clippers and to my amazement, it went very well. So let’s get straight into it.
Good For Thick Coat
Its blades are quite sharp, they cut through the thick fur of the dog easily, like the oft-repeated analogy of a knife through butter.
Furthermore, these blades are very well-spaced, so there is hardly any chance of the skin getting trapped. I used it on a very fidgety Husky that moved about a lot. At first, I was quite terrified that the poor pal’s skin might get caught in the blades but the blades ran very smoothly.
I also loved the fact that after a session of clipping the dog’s hair, I could easily remove and wash the clipper head. It’s washable and doesn’t get damaged by water. And you don’t need to worry about broken hairs getting stuck in the clipper.
For a clean cut, Use just the blade without the guards, this works pretty well and also provides an acceptable finish. rather like a 10-blade or a surgical blade.
Durable
Of the clippers listed here, it is one of the most durable. The material is of excellent quality and I can vouch for its longevity as It fell from my hands many times and thankfully didn’t break.
Cable
As a professional dog trainer who has to trim a lot of dogs, I hate it when clippers aren’t cordless. Initially, I didn’t like its cord but then I bought an extension for it. This solved the problem as now I can cut the dog’s hair pretty much anywhere.
It is often a problem with cordless clippers that their charge doesn’t last long enough. So that’s a plus point for these types of clippers which do not rely on a battery and can function with the same speed no matter how long a session lasts.
Pros:
- Durable
- Effective blades
Cons:
- Comes with a cable
Why Do I Recommend The Product?
Buy this if you’re looking for a durable clipper for dogs with matted hair.
What Makes It Different?
Its ability to cut through thick, double-coated, and matted fur without any snagging is what makes it different from its competitors.
4. Oster Golden A5 Two-Speed Animal Grooming Clipper
Heavy-duty
This is what I call a truly ‘heavy-duty’ device. I have used it for extensive grooming sessions for all parts of the dog’s body viz the neck, torso, feet, and that too with quite detail but this didn’t disappoint me.
Its blades are precision-engineered that provide me with clean and even cuts, without the risk of snagging.
I can say that the overall hand grip is very ergonomically designed because I didn’t feel any hand fatigue while using it.
If the coat was too tough, I would use a #5 or #7 blade. However, you may choose a number based on your dog’s fur, whether it is matted or not, and how thick it is.
Quieter
I loved how quiet this device was in my hands. There wasn’t any unnecessary buzz that got me distracted, and I could just focus on my work completely.
Also, the vibrations that this clipper produces are quite minimal, thus it would be a good choice for those who can’t tolerate heavy vibrations due to pain or any other matter.
Heat
One downside of this device is that it produces considerable heat during a long grooming session. It may become too hot for you to hold if you’ve been using it for more than an hour.
Thus, what I did was have little breaks within a grooming session. This eliminates the chances of the device getting heated up too much. However, the company should look into fixing it for the next batch.
Pros:
- Quiet performance
- Heavy duty
Cons:
- Heats up
Why Do I Recommend The Product?
Get this clipper for its performance-oriented design.
What Makes It Different?
Being a powerful clipper yet operating with low noise is what makes this product unique.
5. WAHL Professional Animal Pro for Husky
Being a fan of WAHL for the awesome products they make, I can’t resist including their products in my list.
Design
The stainless steel blades of this product cut through the double fur of Huskies very smoothly. The blades are not just sharp but are roomy enough to prevent any hair from getting stuck and jamming the device.
However, what I like about this clipper is its attachments. It includes seven color-coded attachments of different lengths, which is a unique and convenient feature.
This eliminates the hassle of searching through multiple blades and struggling to pick the right one by zooming in on the figures. Once I identified the blades that I used most often for my Huskies, I would just simply grab the corresponding color-coded blade and start grooming.
Cordless
I love when a clipper has a cordless design because this gives maximum maneuverability to the user. There is one tiny bit of a problem with such devices and that is the battery life but WAHL has solved that too.
Fast Charging And Decent Battery Life
The company labels that the product gets fully charged in about 15 minutes and lasts for 2 hours. In my use, I found it to be almost ninety percent accurate.
The clipper gets charged very fast and depending on how intensity it is used, the battery usually lasts one grooming session.
Durable
The built-quality promises some good years. I have been using this clipper for quite some time now and haven’t faced any issues and hopefully, I won’t anytime soon.
A Bit Loud
I found it to be a bit louder than other devices on this list. Although this is a negative feature for any clipper but not something that I can compromise on when the performance is brilliant.
Pros:
- Cordless
- Fast-charging
- Color-coded attachments
Cons:
- A bit loud
Why Do I Recommend The Product?
I recommend this product for its cordless design that comes with sharp and effective blades.
What Makes It Different?
Its color-coded attachments and fast-charging battery make it stand out from its competitors.
FAQs
Some related questions people ask.
How do you groom a dog with a double coat?
When it comes to grooming dogs with double coats, the key is to keep the loose hair under control. If your pooch has shorter hair, a handy pin or slicker brush will do the trick by gently brushing out both the inner and outer coats.
But for longer coats, use a bristle brush and shedding rake to effectively remove the excess undercoat.
What blade is best for matted fur?
If your dog’s hair is matted, it’s not advised to use an attachment comb. The best choice is to use a #5 blade if possible.
However, if the mats are too tight for a #5 blade, you’ll need to use a #10 blade instead.
Conclusion – The Winner
Of the 5 clippers on this list for Husky, my favorite is WAHL Professional Animal Pro, this is because of its sharp blades, cordless design, and color-coded attachments.
Pick yours keeping in mind performance, usability, and durability.
